  • What is a subluxation?
A subluxation is an interference to the nervous system, and results in a lack of appropriate communication between the brain and the body. Chiropractors analyze and correct subluxations primarily through working with the spine, which houses the spinal cord and the origin for all peripheral nerves in the body. Through chiropractic care we seek to restore proper joint motion, thereby facilitating proper communication between the body and the brain.
  • Who can benefit from chiropractic care?
Everyone! At least, everyone who has a nervous system and who experiences any kind of stress. Chiropractic care is not the treatment of any specific condition or disease, it is about removing interference and allowing your body to adapt to everyday stressors to the best of its ability. In our office, we focus on caring for the entire person and providing individual approaches to best suit your needs.
  • How long do I have to continue seeing a chiropractor?
Forever. But seriously, as long as you are seeing benefits to regular care we would love to continue providing wellness-based care. Both our doctors like to get adjusted once a week for optimal physical and mental functioning. Wellness care can look like different things for different people. Research has shown that when a joint is immobile, it very quickly begins to lose function and over time leads to degeneration. Having your spine regularly checked keeps everything moving appropriately and serves to strengthen your body's resiliency. Contact our office today to learn more about our wellness care plans!
  • Is chiropractic care safe?
Short answer: Yes. Long answer: when done correctly chiropractic care is a safe and effective way to achieve overall health and wellness. There are many different techniques we utilize in our office and our doctors are open to communicating with patients about what works best for them. While some soreness can occur after an adjustment, typically in the early stages of care, most people feel relaxed and/or rejuvenated after their adjustment. Rare and serious complications can occur, typically as the result of pre-existing conditions which we regularly screen for in our office.
  • Is chiropractic care safe for children?
Yes! Not only is it safe, but chiropractic care can be incredibly effective for infants and children. The sooner the first subluxation is corrected in a child, the healthier they will be. In our office we utilize gentle and effective techniques in order to make sure your children are able to face everyday stressors with a resilient nervous system. The International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) is constantly doing research to further determine the safety and efficacy of chiropractic care.
  • Do you accept insurance?
No, we do not accept insurance. We can print a bill to be submitted to your insurance company if you require. The reason we do not accept insurance is because they limit the amount of care received by a patient based on what they deem appropriate. The insurance model is designed for pain relief and the management of symptoms/conditions. In our office, chiropractic care is delivered with a focus on wellness and does not fit into this narrow model.
  • Will I hear a "crack" or "popping" noise when I get adjusted?
A cavitation (the crack/pop) that can be heard with an adjustment is simply a change in pressure in the joint capsule. In our office we use manual techniques and it is common to hear a cavitation, that being said, just because sound was heard is NOT an indication as to whether or not the adjustment was successful. Adjustments are successfully delivered with or without a cavitation depending upon the person, and the specific technique the doctor is utilizing at the time.
  • Do you take x-rays?
No. We do not currently take x-rays in our office. We have offices nearby that utilize x-ray should our examination reveal them to be indicated, but at this time we do not routinely x-ray patients. Patients may be referred for an x-ray in their initial exam, or during subsequent visits if new trauma has occurred that warrants further investigation.
  • Does getting adjusted hurt?
Getting adjusted should not hurt. Some soreness, like you might experience after working out, can occur. This is less likely to occur the longer someone has been under care. Oftentimes people feel relaxed and/or rejuvenated after an adjustment.
